
William “Bill” Hobson, a 1964 graduate of Texas State University, has built a legacy defined by professional excellence, service, and philanthropy. After beginning his career in education, he transitioned to investments and enjoyed a distinguished 38-year tenure with UBS Wealth Management USA, retiring as a senior vice president in 2006. Alongside his career in finance, Bill also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, earning recognition for his embodiment of the Marine Corps motto “Always Faithful,” including the Semper Fidelis Award from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation in 2023. A passionate rancher, he and his wife, Loma, established Hobson’s Choice Ranch in Cat Spring, Texas, where they continue to dedicate themselves to agriculture, community, and family.
A lifelong supporter of Texas State, Bill has given generously of his time and resources for more than three decades. Bill and Loma, have created four endowed funds, the William and Loma Hobson Endowed Scholarship, the William and Loma Hobson Endowed Scholarship in Nursing, the William and Loma Hobson Endowment in Agricultural Science Research, and the William and Loma Hobson First-Generation Endowed Scholarship, ensuring opportunities for generations of Bobcats. In addition to serving on the Pre-Campaign Task Force, Bill has remained deeply engaged with the Alumni Association, Guardian Society, and Texas State Heroes. From his student days as class president, fraternity member, and Strutters manager, to his lifelong dedication as a Forever Bobcat, Bill exemplifies what it means to be a Texas State graduate, a leader who uplifts others and strengthens his community through service, generosity, and vision.
