For Rachel Brewer Bond ’06, the journey to becoming a Forever Bobcat wasn’t about making one big decision, it was about taking a meaningful step forward. “I always thought I’d become a Forever Bobcat shortly after graduating,” she said. “But whenever I planned to make a large donation, life and bills tended to get in the way.”

Everything changed when she shifted her perspective. Instead of waiting for the perfect moment, Rachel set up a small automatic monthly gift. “That steady contribution made it easy to reach Forever Bobcat status,” she shared. “If more alumni gave even a few dollars each month, imagine the collective impact we could make in supporting the legacy and growth of Texas State University.”

Although Rachel no longer lives in San Marcos, becoming a Forever Bobcat has strengthened her connection to Texas State in ways that feel both meaningful and consistent. “I’m not always aware of what’s happening unless I go looking for it,” she admitted. “Being part of the Alumni Association as a Forever Bobcat keeps me connected through consistent digital updates, invitations to local alumni events, and opportunities to network with fellow Bobcats in my city. It brings back that sense of pride when I come back to campus for games, gatherings, and other activities.”

Being a Forever Bobcat also allows her to celebrate the shared identity that ties generations of alumni together. “I want people to share their Texas State affiliation with pride,” she said. She remembers putting herself through school, balancing classes, long work hours, occasional train delays, and sprinting across campus to make it to Old Main on time. “No matter what year someone graduated, we all share a part of that same story,” she reflected. “The ‘remember when’ moments remind me why this community means so much and why I love being part of the Alumni Association.”

Rachel hopes her support shows current and future students that Texas State alumni are in their corner. “It’s an honor to be a Texas State University graduate and part of an alumni community that includes Presidents, artists, performers, writers, and athletes,” she said. “I want students to know that those who came before them are rooting for their success, not just while they’re at Texas State, but long after they graduate.”

Some of her most defining memories took place inside the iconic walls of Old Main. “Walking into Old Main felt like stepping into history,” she recalled. “Its legacy, architecture, and place at the heart of campus inspired me then and continue to inspire me now.” The relationships she formed and the support she felt from faculty shaped her path, ultimately guiding her into a career rooted in communication and community engagement.

For Rachel Brewer Bond, being a Forever Bobcat is more than a milestone, it’s a meaningful commitment to the university that shaped her, and a way to ensure future Bobcats continue to thrive.
