For Sylvia Benitez ‘19, supporting Texas State University as a Forever Bobcat is about more than staying connected, it’s about honoring a family legacy rooted in pride, tradition, and lifelong belonging.

“I will forever be a Bobcat,” she shared, “and because of this awesome designation, I wanted to show my support to the university that has given me and my family so much.” Joining Forever Bobcats felt like a natural way to give back to the place that shaped not just her own journey, but the paths of those she loves most.

Being a Forever Bobcat keeps Sylvia closely connected to Texas State University through regular updates, emails, letters, and social media. “It all keeps me informed,” she said. “I appreciate it all.” These touchpoints serve as a reminder that once you’re part of the Bobcat family, that connection never fades.

One of her most cherished Bobcat memories captures that perfectly. Years ago, she attended a basketball game halftime show where her daughter was performing with her middle school dance team. Her son, just five years old at the time, caught sight of Boko and was determined to get his attention, and a photo. Sixteen years later, when preparing that same son’s Texas State graduation invitations, the family included two photos side by side: one of him in his cap and gown with Boko, and another from that moment years earlier as a child standing proudly next to the mascot.

Today, that little boy is a Texas State alumnus making a positive impact on current students as an academic advisor at Texas State. His sister is also a Texas State alumna, and both are married to fellow Bobcats. “We believe in TXST,” she shared proudly. “TXST is a family when you’re here learning, and when you leave to live an amazing life that your education has equipped you for.”

Sylvia’s hope is that her support shows current and future Bobcats just that, no matter where life takes you, Texas State is always home.
