Texas State University won a CASE Circle of Excellence Gold Award in 2021 for the #WeMetAtTXST campaign in the Communications | Social Media - Alumni Relations category.
We Met at TXST
A 2013 Facebook study found that 28% of married college graduates attended the same university. Research into our own alumni base found that about 30% of our alumni were couples. The #WeMetAtTXST digital campaign was born of a story in Hillviews in 2021. The campaign celebrates couples that met at our university, and we share new stories every year around Valentine's Day!
Gia and Ronald
Gia Riley '94 and Ronald Riley '90 met when Gia was a freshman and Ronald was a senior. They have been together for 34 years and married for 23 of those years! Their daughter, Kizzy, was a Strutter and they have enjoyed her time at TXST almost as much as their own. Not just a Bobcat couple, but a Bobcat family!
Ximena and Davren
Ximena Carrera '17 and Davren Montgomery '17 met the weekend before their junior year started and were both involved in Greek organizations. Darven would visit Ximena during her shifts working in the Alkek Library. After graduation, they moved to Austin, then relocated to Dallas, and have been married since March 2023!
Gladys and Geoffrey
Gladys Jurado '20, '22 and Geoffrey Gutierrez were both in the Bobcat Marching Band. They discovered that they both went to the same summer vacation destination during an icebreaker game at freshman orientation. They soon exchanged phone numbers, starting dating, and now they are engaged to be married in 2025!
Did you and your partner meet at TXST?
Special thank you to Jacque Crouse Fidler (B.A. '77) who wrote the original #WeMetAtTXST story that appeared in Fall 2020 Hillviews and inspired us to continue collecting Bobcat love stories!
