LBJ Outstanding Senior Award

The LBJ Outstanding Senior Student Award is given annually by the Alumni Association to a student as recognition for outstanding leadership, character, campus and community involvement, and academic success. Recipients must be candidates for graduation in May of the year that the award is conferred or have graduated the previous August or December. The recipient is recognized at the April Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting and at the Distinguished Alumni Gala. The recipient is recognized at the April Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting and at the Distinguished Alumni Gala held every fall during Homecoming weekend. The recipient receives a $1,500 stipend from the Alumni Association.

2025 LBJ Outstanding Senior Student


Anna Collingwood is an Electrical Engineering major with a concentration in Micro and Nano Devices and a minor in Applied Mathematics. Her academic journey has been complemented by a strong commitment to leadership and community, as evidenced by her extensive involvement in various student organizations. She has served as an officer in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), IEEE Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), and Alpha Gamma Delta, while also taking on the role of a recruitment counselor for Greek Life Panhellenic.

Throughout her college career, Anna has consistently balanced multiple leadership roles, often holding office in several organizations simultaneously. During her senior year, she served as Secretary of IEEE and President of HKN, an honor society she helped establish at her university. Her dedication to both technical and social communities showcases her ability to lead, manage responsibilities, and foster collaboration across diverse groups.

In addition to her leadership experience, Anna has actively engaged in research under Dr. Ariful Haque in the Ultrawide Bandgap Semiconductor lab, working closely with her mentor Maria Sultana. She has also contributed to outreach and service initiatives, participating in K–12 STEM education efforts and environmental projects like cleaning up the San Marcos River. Her passion for engineering, leadership, and community service reflects a well-rounded and driven individual prepared to make meaningful contributions to her field.

 

Eligibility

  1. Nominee must be classified as a senior at Texas State University and be a candidate for graduation at Texas State University in May of the year that the award is conferred or have graduated the previous August or December.
  2. Nominee must have completed at least sixty (60) credit hours at Texas State University.
  3. Nominee must have demonstrated outstanding leadership, character, campus and community involvement, and academic success at Texas State University.
  4. Nominee must be a person of such integrity, stature and demonstrated ability that the faculty, staff, students and alumni of the university will take pride in, and be inspired by, their recognition.
  5. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Criteria and Guidelines

  • Nominated students will receive notification and instructions by the Office of Alumni Engagement after their nominations are received. In order to complete their nomination packet, students will be asked to submit the following:

    • Student ID Number
    • Graduation date
    • Resume
    • Brief statement summarizing how they meet the criteria for the award.

    Finalists will be asked to interview with the selection committee in late March/early April of the nomination year.
